Getting Your Marketing Ready for the Run Up to Christmas

2026-10-204 min read

By the time the run up to Christmas actually arrives, there is very little time left to plan anything properly. The businesses that do well out of the season are usually the ones that started thinking about it in October, not the ones scrambling together an advert in the first week of December.

Decide what you are actually promoting.

A vague, general Christmas post rarely performs as well as something specific, a particular product, a gift option, a last order date for delivery, or an offer that only runs for a set window. Customers respond to something concrete far more than a general seasonal greeting.

Get the content shot before the rush starts.

Photography and video take longer to arrange the closer you get to Christmas itself, and a packed diary in December leaves little time for a proper shoot. Getting seasonal content filmed in good time means it is ready to go out the moment it is needed, rather than being rushed together at the last minute.

Plan your key dates in advance.

Last order dates for delivery, closing dates over the festive period and the date you reopen in January should all be decided and published well ahead of time. Customers forgive very little when it comes to missed deadlines at Christmas, and a clear, well publicised cut off date avoids most of that frustration entirely.

Advertising gets more expensive, so plan budget accordingly.

Paid advertising costs typically rise through November and December as more businesses compete for the same attention. Starting a campaign earlier, while costs are still reasonable, and building momentum ahead of the busiest weeks usually works out better than trying to compete head on in the final fortnight.

If your Christmas marketing normally comes together at the last minute, now is a good time to change that. A free strategy call is a good place to start working out what this season should actually look like for your business.
